You may recall the story that Andy wrote about last month in which two gay men with developmental and intellectual disabilities were kicked out of a public swimming area by an employee. The worker, Kim Haynes, apparently cited religious beliefs for removing the men from the pool. Yesterday, dozens of people showed up to protest Haynes and support the ousted gay men.

WKYT reports:

6a00d8341c730253ef01538f2a7850970b-800wiThe Hazard City Attorney says it was inappropriate for Haynes to argue with a patron and to use religious beliefs as grounds to kick out the couple. The city did release a statement saying that the employee is suspended without pay for five days, but Palmer says that's not enough.

"If he does not issue an apology and is not reassigned into a different area of government, than we will sue the city of Hazard," said (the president of the Kentucky Equality Federation).

Among the steps the city intends take are to submit a letter of apology to the company that cares for the disabled men and install anti-discrimination signage.
