Several snow-related traffic accidents rippled throughout Salt Lake County as flurries on the road led to sliding cars Sunday evening.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers said they expected a worse evening and were happy with only 12 accidents that occurred on Salt Lake County freeways as of 10 p.m. Davis County and Utah County each reported four accidents, all with minor to no injuries, said UHP Sgt. Ted Tingey.
Officials were forced to close I-80 in Parley’s Canyon for 30 minutes to clear snow from the road, Tingey said.
“What usually happens is that a semi or someone else would get stalled, then another car would slide off and hit them,” he said. “It backed everyone else up for awhile.”
Meteorologists expected the showers to wane by midnight, leaving Utah with a dry and somewhat warming period leading up to Thanksgiving.
About 2-3 inches accumulated throughout the Salt Lake Valley, with a few spots reaching 4 inches, National Weather Service meteorologist Nanette Hosenfeld said.
