A 22-year-old woman is in serious, but stable condition after getting shot with a rifle Wednesday night.
Salt Lake City Police Lt. Craig Gleason said the department was called at 11:29 p.m. regarding a shooting that occurred in the area near 200 South and 1300 West.
“We heard that two people came out of a house and fired shots at a car. One person in the car was hit with a rifle round in the chest,” he said.
Gleason it was his understanding that the woman was hit under the right shoulder blade and the bullet emerged through her chest. “I was told she was severely injured, but right now they’re not concerned that she’s going to pass away.”
Gleason said the people in the car stated that the individuals in the house owed them money. However, the people in the house said they saw the car circling the block, feared they would be attacked and decided they would “go pro-active and shoot first,” Gleason said.
The individuals had a rifle and some type of pistol.
Police arrested Arnold Plama, 22, and Juan Bernal, 31, on suspicion of attempted homicide.
