A man was charged Monday with robbing a Murray bank.
Wearing a blond wig, hat and sunglasses, a man approached a teller at Zions Bank, 5595 S. State, on Oct. 27 and threatened to shoot if the teller didn’t hand over cash, according to federal charges. The teller handed over cash and the robber headed east on foot.
Murray detectives recognized Nile Gene Nelson, 54, for this and other nearby robberies, charging documents state. The teller positively identified Nelson as the robber in a photo lineup.
Nelson evaded police and FBI for a few days until he was caught in Wendover, Nev. He was arrested and brought to Salt Lake City.
A search to his luggage revealed a black pellet gun that resembles a firearm, the charges state.
A check of Utah state court records indicates that Nelson has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for forgery, simple assault and theft.
