OGDEN — A car was totaled by an incoming FrontRunner train when the vehicle accidentally drove onto the tracks instead of the road Monday evening, UTA officials said.
The 62-year-old driver was traveling west on 2nd Street when he tried to make a right turn onto 530 West, but instead turned onto the rails. About 30 feet down the track, the vehicle became high-centered, and the driver exited to call police, said Utah Transit Authority spokesman Gerry Carpenter.
An incoming FrontRunner train traveling north attempted emergency braking but ended up crushing the small vehicle about 5:30 p.m., Carpenter said.
No-one was injured, and passengers on the train were transported by bus to their final stop at the Pleasant View station, officials said. Carpenter said the driver hasn’t been cited and damage to the train was primarily cosmetic.
